Parks and Recreation Meeting Minutes of Monday, August 20, 2012

• Park Director Update
• Recreation Director Update(MS)
o Lynne is on vacation Maureen updated committee on her behalf
o Summerscape/Kid connection Programs: Programs have ended for the summer. There are a couple of small camps going on right now.
• Operation Director Update (SS)
o Skate Park update: Maureen is ordering permit stickers and Marty is ordering signage.
o Finances: Maureen handed out budget summary and review with everyone. Maureen explained deficit and informed everyone that there will be a warrant article at the October Town Meeting to ask for subsidy on deficit. Rita spoke with Town administrator and he said it was figured into the numbers and will be discussed a BOS meeting tonight.
• LUC Updates (RM)
o Golf Tournament: LUC is also asking if the office staff can help with prep and organization of the event. This years fundraising from event will go toward a community center.
• CIT Updates (RM)
o Rita will inform us when the first meeting will be scheduled. The CIT received a $50,000 grant.

• FONRPRC Updates (SS):
o Next event will be the Black Friday Bowl in November.
o Trying to recruit new members and new fundraising ideas
o Billie Luker as P&R members to try to come up with some ideas and bring them to the next meeting.
• Cart Vending (MS):
o Maureen has not contacted Kevin Willerman. Table Subject.
Other Business
• Little School Retaining Wall (MF)
Mike is upset that he found out about the Little School Retaining wall issue through an article in the NR Transcript which stated that NR Parks & Recreation should be responsible for some of the cost of the repair. Many facts in the article were incorrect. He feels that P&R is being portrayed in a negative manner. Mike stated that he would like a retraction of some sort from the School Committee and set the facts straight. Rita informed everyone that Marty went to the BOS meeting to correctly inform the BOS of the facts. Rita will speak with the school committee to see where they got their facts from. Mike Fitzpatrick asked if we have a memorandum of understanding regarding the fields at the little school and he asked who is responsible for their care. Pat Fillmore
responded that they are the schools fields during school hours and for all school league sports and P& R has use after those hours. School Department is supposed to maintain the fields however Marty’s crew does majority of maintenance and upkeep. Rita ask for a letter be put together with copies for the articles to ask the School Committee to retract the previous incorrect information and put forth the correct information.
